Thermo broken aluminium profile system

  • Thermally broken aluminium windows and doors use a modern technology where a gap is made between the frames components, joined together using a less conductive material. What does this mean? In practice, this will create a barrier between the cold air outside and the warm air inside. This results in excellent window insulation and tackles the problem with aluminium’s high conductance. When aluminium windows and doors are not thermally broken they will become very hot during the summer and very cold during the winter season.

  • The thermal break is placed within a gap in the structure of the window, in between the inside and outside frames. The most efficient material used is a polyamide plastic or fabric. Steel has often been used in the past due to its poor conduction of heat, however, the thermal conductivity of polyamide is 160 times better than steel.

  • Thermally broken aluminium windows and doors provide exceptional thermal performance, reducing your energy bills whilst keeping your home well insulated all year round.

  • The frame can greatly affect the actual energy efficiency of any window and door – including that of double glazed systems. Plus, efficient wall and ceiling insulation will make an even bigger difference to the overall insulation of your home, office or building.

  • Standard aluminium is a good conductor of heat and cold meaning that you can lose or gain a great deal of heat through the frame of the window/door. This can ultimately undermine the performance of double glazed windows.

  • Thermally broken aluminium profile reduce condensation – A thermal breaker will minimise how much heat is lost from inside and how much cold is allowed through from the outside. Reducing cold spots and condensation forming.

  • By installing thermally broken double glazed windows and doors, you will be able to stop noise by up to 80% and keep your home cooler during the hot summers.

If you are looking to upgrade your home with new windows and doors and are considering aluminium ones, it’s important to ensure that they are thermally broken. They can improve the overall energy efficiency of your property, keeping your home warm all year round whilst reducing your energy bills

Thermo broken

The concept of a thermal break is similar to that of a double or triple glazed unit; creating a thermal barrier against heat loss by introducing a low conductive material to the system makeup. In insulated glass panels such as double glazing, this is a gas filling and spacer bars. In framing this is the ‘thermal break’.

These thermal breaks are generally made of a substantially rigid, low thermal conductive polyamide or polyurethane material, which are naturally good thermal barriers. The thermal break material is then mechanically locked in the metal framing to create a thermally broken system.
